In 1945, Jim Viox Jr. and George Rassenfoss embarked on an ambitious journey when they founded Viox & Viox, a civil engineering and surveying business that has since built a reputation for excellence. From our inception, the company was built on the values of integrity, innovation, and family—a legacy that continues to guide our firm today.
Fast forward nearly eight decades, and the Viox family remains at the heart of our business. Four generations of the Viox family have contributed their talents and expertise to the firm, helping it evolve while staying true to its founding principles. This deep-rooted family connection has always been one of Viox & Viox’s defining characteristics. Last week, that connection became even more meaningful with the return of a familiar name—Rassenfoss.
In an exciting twist of fate, we welcomed a new intern, Matthew Cottengim, who is none other than the great-grandchild of George Rassenfoss, one of the company’s original founders. This internship is more than just an opportunity for a young professional to gain experience; it symbolizes the reunion of the Rassenfoss and Viox families, reconnecting the two founding lines.
Matthew is a senior at Beechwood High School with a strong interest in civil engineering. His decision to intern at Viox & Viox is driven by both his career aspirations and the family connection. Eager to gain hands-on experience, Matthew looks forward to learning more about civil engineering in a professional setting. Outside of academics, he enjoys playing golf and baseball, watching sports, and spending quality time with friends and family. He cherishes fond memories of visiting his great-grandfather’s farm every Easter, where the family would gather to celebrate the holiday together.
Matthew’s arrival is a meaningful reminder of the values established by Jim Viox Jr. and George Rassenfoss in 1945. As the Rassenfoss family reconnects with Viox & Viox, this moment reflects the firm’s strong foundation and bright future. “We are honored to have a member of the Rassenfoss family with us again,” expressed the Viox family. Having George Rassenfoss’s great-grandchild join as an intern brings back memories of how Jim Viox Jr. and George Rassenfoss worked side by side to build a company rooted in precision, quality, and care.
As we mentor the next generation, we are reminded of the importance of preserving the traditions set by both founders. The Viox & Rassenfoss connection represents more than just names on a sign; it embodies a shared passion for civil engineering passed down through generations. This internship marks the start of a new chapter for Viox & Viox, as the Rassenfoss and Viox legacies come together once again.
