about Florence community plaza
Florence Community Plaza is a 1-acre public space located at the intersection of Mall Road and Heights Boulevard in Florence, Kentucky. The property was donated to the City of Florence by the owner with the expressed purpose that it should be utilized as a community park.
Viox & Viox was hired to develop concept plans and to work with the city to fulfill the requirements of the owner’s agreement by creating a space the community could utilize for outdoor events. After the city decided on their vision for the project, Viox & Viox was hired to complete the surveying, site design, and landscape architecture for the park. Tasks included site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, and utility design. The park was designed to work with future roadway improvements that are planned for the area. Viox & Viox also provided construction administration and construction staking for the project.
The City of Florence chose to utilize the space to honor and celebrate the men and women who serve the community. Themed sculpture scenes were selected through a collaborative process to represent the Fire/EMS Department, Police Department, and Public Services. Brick pavers surround these features and may be purchased to recognize employees upon retirement. The plaza also hosts community gatherings including the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, City Night Outings, and other community events.
