about duveneck square
Duveneck Square is an urban infill development project in Covington, Kentucky, along Washington Street, between Seventh and Eighth Streets. This mixed-use development both complements and enhances the existing historical neighborhood. The development includes 108 residential apartment units, restaurant and retail space, office space, and parking facilities.
Cincinnati-based Northpointe Group selected Viox & Viox to provide surveying and civil site design services for this project. The development is adjacent to Braxton Brewery and near the Hotel Covington. This $65 million project is significant to the City of Covington as it will help to meet the current demand for more urban housing.
Design tasks included grading, sanitary sewer connections to combined sewers, water main, storm sewer, public agency approvals, and coordination with other professionals. Phase 1 of Duveneck Square opened in 2018. Phase 2, which took place from 2019 to 2020, expanded the project across Washington Street, adding enhanced surveying and civil engineering services. This phase included topographic surveying, subdivision plat preparation, storm sewer updates, and redesigns to adapt the site for multi-family buildings. Utility services, stormwater management, and public infrastructure were redesigned to support the new layout, including an underground stormwater detention system and adjustments for utility connections. Coordination with local agencies and permit revisions ensured compliance with city and environmental regulations. Phase 2 also included construction plans and site preparation to support the new mixed-use space, further contributing to Covington’s urban growth and revitalization.
