About Bell PArk
The historic Main Street District of the City of Florence, Kentucky is becoming a revitalized space with the addition of Bell Park in 2022. Bell Park is a nearly half-acre pocket park located directly across from the Historic Main Street Fire Station. The relationship between the Fire Station and Bell Park forms an entryway into the heart of Main Street from the intersection of US 42 and Dixie Highway.
As the gateway to Main Street, Viox & Viox worked with the City of Florence to carefully design Bell Park to be a multi-functional space to celebrate the history of the Main Street District. The pocket park was designed to include: a custom gateway sign with a symbolic bell to reference the bell of a former schoolhouse in the Main Street District; a history garden with a series of customized story boards to walk through the history of Main Street from the 1800’s to the present; a bell-shaped plaza for small gatherings and events; seat walls; a parking lot to also serve as overflow event space; site furniture; and an aesthetic lawn with landscaping.
Although the site is small, Viox & Viox worked diligently to create a series of conceptual designs to determine how Bell Park’s design would fit into the overall master plan of the Main Street streetscape. The final design was chosen to preserve the historic character and design for the future of the Main Street streetscape. Viox & Viox provided services including surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture to complete the project. Specific tasks completed include site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utility design, landscape design, 2-D and 3-D conceptual renderings, construction documents, construction administration, and construction staking.
